Off Season Tasks - Canning
Since it’s not apple season we are just hanging out and catching up on sleep – right? Well…that’s sort of true. The rest of the year is definitely more laid back without the urgency to accomplish things as there is in apple season. I’ll try to do a post a week to show you the different things we do work on during off-season.One of the main things we do in January is canning. Diane is the ‘head’ canner. You can often find Frank or Jared downstairs helping her with this task. This year we added a few new helpers to the job of canning by offering classes open to the public. Here are a few pictures of our helpers working hard. From the sounds of it – people enjoyed the class, their goodies and even learned a few things too. We try to having canning wrapped up no later than mid-February since the apples just don’t last much longer than that. A few of the things we make we can work on at different times like the Seedless Raspberry Spread and the Spiced Cider Jelly. After this season of canning we will be offering:
- Applesauce (smooth & chunky)
- Apple Pie in a Jar
- Apple Butter
- Apple-JalapeƱo Preserves
- Caramel Apple Jam
- Spiced Cider Jelly
- Sweet Apple Pickles
- Seedless Raspberry Spread
