PLEASE HELP RECYCLE!

Drop off your plastic bags and canning jars at the orchard and we'll re-use them!

We're always looking for wagons for people to use when they go to our pumpkin patch - feel free to drop off your old or un-used wagons at the orchard!

We're also happy to take any picnic tables you're getting rid of - even if it's just the 'bones' of the table.

Thanks!

Sunflower Field …

We’ve had a few people stop in the shop to ask where they can find our sunflower field.  Well .. the picture below is our sunflower “field” this year …

IMG_7746

Sadly, the sunflower field did not grow as it has in the past.  We planted the seeds when it was too wet and we had a fail in this department.  Sorry everyone!  We’ll try again next year!

IMG_5422We do have some volunteer sunflowers that have sprung up around the orchard though … and some are TALL.

And the flowers around the shop are absolutely stunning!

I have a hard time walking by them and not snapping a picture.

These pink ones are so delicate and they’re right in front of the shop so I get to enjoy them every time I walk into the front door.

Gardens at Lapacek’s Orchard

Many folks visit our place, come into the shop and compliment me on how beautiful the gardens are.

IMG_1920I always let them know that I have no claim in that – it’s all my mother-in-law (and maybe a little my girls) that makes the outside gardens look as beautiful as they do!

I’m probably one of the only farmer’s that has a black thumb and can’t make anything grow!

My mother-in-law, Diane, shared a great story about some of the flowers that are planted in our garden.  A customer of the orchard had extra Dahlia’s and didn’t know what she was going to do with them.  IMG_1925-001Her granddaughter suggested that she bring them to the orchard so we could plant them.  The grandmother thought it was a great idea and Diane just happened to be out and about at the orchard when they dropped them off.  They are now growing beautifully here for you all to admire.

The Flower’s of Cain’s Orchard

033Frank, Diane and I attended an orchard field day at Cain’s Orchard yesterday. We learned a few interesting things that we will be implementing at our orchard either this year or next. One thing that was fabulous was Diane Cain’s flowers…just amazing. The rest of this blog is pretty much just going to be a picture show. I don’t know the name’s of the flowers…maybe Diane will come in and add that info?… but they sure are beautiful!058 A018

Another Day...Another Apple

Hello everyone! Well, I spent a bit of time today working at the apple store. Diane took the girls to Subway and I was able to get a few things done. We're still working on getting the store a bit more organized and still coming up with more ideas for the season. The hand-dyes are up and organized...for now anyway. We have quite the selection and we may find it a bit challenging to find space for the hoodies we just dyed...I'm sure we'll manage though. Cedi and Grandma picked some green peppers and cabbages (is that the proper plural or is it just cabbage...hmmm). Frank was up at the produce auction and brought home some glads and some yummy red pototoes. The glads won't be there long so make sure to stop by and pick some of the beautiful flowers up.

Cedi started to get a bit cranky around 2 so we headed home for naps. I actually have them both asleep and it's been almost an hour and a half...yes, I know I am amazing :). So, I have been doing some research on "green" cleaning since I seem to be allergic to standard cleaning supplies (I know it sounds like just an excuse, but I swear it's true). I started to clean my windows with a vinegar/water/dishsoap solution to get the waxy coat left over from Windex. The next time I clean them all I should need is a bottle of vinegar and a rag. I'll keep you posted on whether or not this works or if I find any more neat "green" cleaning tips out.
