PLEASE HELP RECYCLE!

Drop off your plastic bags and canning jars at the orchard and we'll re-use them!

We're always looking for wagons for people to use when they go to our pumpkin patch - feel free to drop off your old or un-used wagons at the orchard!

We're also happy to take any picnic tables you're getting rid of - even if it's just the 'bones' of the table.

Thanks!

The ‘Sassy Cow’

I’ve been busy this week painting a Gigantic Cow for Sassy Cow Creamery. They’re going to be making into a ‘milking cow’ for their place and needed it to be ready for their big event – The Sassy Cow Creamery Farm Olympics. I was happy to help!006 - CopyThe first step was to find a picture of a cow that I could use. I redrew the picture above onto a small sheet of paper and projected it onto two sheets of 4x8 plywood. 005 - Copy Then I primed the entire cow. 009 - Copy The next step was to paint all the white portions of the cow. 016 - Copy The pink and black came next!018 And here is the final image of the cow!019 Now, Sassy Cow will pick it up and cut the cow out and attach the two pieces together to make it into a standing ‘milking cow’. You’ll have to stop by the creamery to find out what I’m talking about!

Savor & Sample Fest: South Central WI’s Home Grown Food Festival

I just wanted to share with you all an amazing event that is happening tomorrow. After (or before) you stop by the orchard for your apples, caramel apples and cider you should make sure to check out the Savor & Sample Fest: South Central WI’s Home Grown Food Festival. It is being held at Sassy Cow Creamery, W4192 Bristol Road, Columbus, WI tomorrow (September 20th) from 1 until 4 pm.

Rediscover the benefits of buying and eating locally grown food. The first ever South Central WI Local Food Festival will give you a chance to:

  • Talk to the farmers who grow local foods
  • Buy and sell locally grown food
  • Support and strengthen our local food economy
  • Sample and savor local foods

Features of the Savor & Sample Fest:

  • Farm & Creamery Tours
  • Homemade Ice Cream Social (one of the toppings is Lapacek’s Orchard Apple Pie in a Jar…yummmmy!)
  • Local Chef Cooking Demo’s
  • Farmer’s Market Learning Opportunities
  • Preserving homegrown food
  • Growing local food
  • Where to buy and sell local food
Taste of South Central WI food experience
  • Family and Children Activities
  • Lots more…..

Why eat Local?

  • The food is delicious!
  • Locally-grown food has a smaller carbon foot print (lower pollution due to less travel time).
  • Keeping family farms viable keeps rural landscape alive.
  • Spending your money where you live keeps your community thriving.
  • The less processed the food, the healthier it is.
  • The more colorful your diet, the healthier you are eating.
  • South Central WI is particularly blessed with a diverse community of small farms and food producers. Try our milk, ice cream, cheeses, meats, fruits, vegetables, jams, and other seasonal produce.

Since I have to work at the apple store I will not be able to attend but I would love to hear what you all think of the event!

Sun Prairie Farmer's Market

Well, I just returned home from a successful farmer's market in Sun Prairie. I sold all of my apples and about half of my caramel apples by 11:40. I could have had one more bushel with me, but that's not too bad. It was great seeing some familiar faces again. As always, I can never attend a market without forgetting something...this time it was my box of jewelry. Hopefully next week I won't forget it.

Since I finished a bit early I was able to try out some of Sassy Cow's delicious peach ice cream. I'm pretty sure they are a dairy farm located in Columbus, WI. Lots of vegetables were available as well and of course the bakery was there. My father-in-law is a huge fan of the shrimp that the seafood man brings. If you live in the area you should definitely check the market out sometime. They've really done a nice job. It's on Saturdays from 7 - 12 behind the Municipal Building (across the road from Cannery Square) if you're interested.

Well, off to the store!
