I am super excited that I have some new apples so I can continue my Sauce-sational Applesauce Experiment. I’m going to start the season out with a brand new apple of ours – the Scarlet. As you can see – it has a pink flesh! We picked these a bit too late and there really weren’t many on the trees.
Since they were so small I just peeled them with a veggie peeler –seriously how awesome is that pink, and
In about two hours I had a beautiful pink, chunkier textured sauce. I wasn’t the hugest fan on the flavor. It has a ‘sharp, tart’ flavoring that made my jaw tingle. My friend, Kaitra, on the other hand liked it. I’m sure it will be wonderful in the few bags of baker’s mix that will be lucky to be packed with one of these apples. It will definitely add a new flavor to the mix and make it a full flavored pie/crisp or sauce.
